Not everyone who wants to Compost has sufficient land to generate a good quantity of materials to Compost.
Even many of those with enough land don’t have a sufficient mixture of material to make a decent and rich Compost. Hopefully you Compost Kitchen Scraps and anything else you can get your hands on.
Here is a quick tip for those who wish they could make more Compost than they do now.
Ask!
When you drive past a Coffee Shop, Restaurant, Grocers etc, pop in and ask what they do with the waste.
Many businesses have to pay to get their rubbish removed and would be glad of someone to take it off their hands. Old Coffee Granules ae great for the pile. Ask the local greengrocer if you can have all the old fruit and Veg that would otherwise be thrown away.
The same goes for Farmers, Horse Stables etc. Phone them up or call around and ask for some free manure. Animal manure is perfect for enriching your land and you will be amazed how many people are more than happy to get excess off their land.
Don’t forget that you should compost much of the waste bedding from any small animals you have. Do you have pet rabbits or hamsters and guinea pigs? All the bedding should be composted. Of course if your children’s pet hamsters are Zhu Zhu pet hamsters then you are out of luck but I guess at least the Zhu Zhu hamsters like Mr. Squiggles mean no cleaning up. Try to get some real hamsters though, free materials for the compost heap and a lot of fun for the kids.
There is nothing wrong with being a bit cheeky. If you don’t ask, you don’t get.
Think of the size of the Tomatoes you could be growing this year, it may just motivate you to build a Compost Heap of epic proportions! If you don’t have much room don’t forget you can always build up instead of out.
