A Different Kind of Self Sufficient Life

So, for any regular readers left from when we were regular writers here at A Self Sufficient Life, breaking news…

Well not so much breaking news as – time for a change.   The site has been neglected whilst we have been doing things to earn a little money.  It seems frugal living on a mountain is all well and good, but you do need cash for petrol and other little luxuries, like clean clothes (if Mr DB works out how to fix the washing machine).

So, long story short Mr Dirty Boots and myself have been busy tip-tapping away in other places on the Internet to avoid working for the man.  Now what started as a bid to never return to an office ever again, with the possibility of not eating lentil soup every day (yes I do enjoy lentils and they are super healthy but the option of a cheese sandwich is always nice!), has turned into something of a success story.

Turns out tip-tapping on the internet can bring untold riches – we have even had a real holiday!  Not very self sufficient or very frugal, but oh so lovely and long awaited!

So, being less hungry than we once were it is time to take a little time out from “business” to write something just for fun.  And that my dear is where this site comes in…

So, whilst we still live a frugal off-grid life, this site is going to change into my “living up a mountain” blog.  There may be recipes, there may be more composting tales and woes from the neglected veg patch.  There may even be the long awaited “Cabbage Jam” recipe that MrDB is looking forward too.  To be honest I don’t know what will happen, but this blog will be all mine and I will write what I damn well please.

In fact it may even get a little face-lift itself.

    Welcome back!
I was wondering where you two went. Congrats on doing the successful separation from the “man”- I know it takes a lot of hard work and time to establish an online business. Maybe I will get there someday.
Speaking of changes, our gardens are winding down around here as we wait for the beautiful fall colors to arrive. Ah, I can smell the hot apple cider and cinnamon already.

  2. Cheers Jeff!

Still warm here but busy collecting firewood for when the weather turns. Apple cider… mmmm

Good to know you two are doing well.

Great to see you blogging again Mrs DB, I’m looking forward to the return of recipes and anything else you damn well like!

Another theme change on the way? I’ve got quite sentimental about mine now and can’t bear to change it even though I’ve bought thesis and could have something completely customizable!

  4. Goo, nice to have somewhere to write what I fancy again! Can’t bring myself to change the theme either – can’t find one I actually like, maybe at some point. I hear good things about Thesis.

Try the theme test drive plugin and you can play to your hearts content but us lot will still see the original theme till you are totally happy.
