Well, actually it was a great thing, but with the rather in depth conversation in the last post about what being “eco” really means, it was very bad from that point of view.
I took about 3 million flights and flew about as far away as you can possibly go to go to my sisters wedding in New Zealand. Not very eco friendly at all. A great time was had by all and it was great to see my little Sis get married. I was only there for 6 days and then 4 more were spent getting there and back.
How do people do it on a regular basis? I have no idea. I got back on Thursday evening and I am still totally out of sorts now on Monday. I woke up, and am still awake, at 5 am this morning so have been busy doing the usual online business and even updating some of our websites.
So, I am sort of back to my online endeavours in some respects but my brain is fried and concentrating is hard. Cheap flights are hard to find and that is for sure. It took me a whole day to find even a remotely affordable return flight to NZ, plus a flight from Barcelona to Heathrow. It boggles my mind how much of a logistical nightmare it is simply to be able to get flights that you know you wont miss if you get a little delayed.
This is the furthest that I have ever flown and I simply can’t believe just how exhausting the whole process is. With the first cold I have had in 5 years not helping me feel any better, I am seriously considering vowing only to ever fly super first high end luxury and all in one business class if I ever do it again. That is if it is still the same price as economy and means I get a bigger television to watch.
I wonder how many home grown carrots I am going to have to eat to make up for all the fossil fuels I burnt? Quite a few I imagine.
What I must say though is that after all my searching for cheap plane tickets I was surprised at how good some of the prices were. And amazed at the difference a day or two could make to the price. Fly out a few days earlier or later and the price can easily be twice as much. Which, really, is the point to this rather pointless post. If you want to ensure that you travel as cheaply as possible make sure that you are as flexible as possible with when you can fly out and when you can return.
Obviously I had to be in NZ for a certain date, but even then I could have paid twice as much if I had flown out only a few days earlier. And I must say that Emirates were a great airline and with the new fangled tv’s in the headrests I even saw some great new shows. 30 Rock was quite impressive and I will be taking a look at it. But, if I had the money it would have been one of those times when the new Kindle reader would have been very welcome. There is only so much tv you can watch and a good choice of books to easily flip through would have been great.
Um, it is now 2 in the afternoon and I feel a serious Siesta is now called for.
Hi, At least you didn’t go to Copenhagen deplete the ozone layer with a load of hot air talking a load of natural fertiliser!
Don’t worry about it, we are none of us perfect, make a sweater from pet hair and offset the carbon footprint. (people do this you know eew!)
To cure jetlag drink a lot of beer and go to sleep for as long as you can, doesn’t cure anything but you don’t care!
Ayesha
Ayesha,
Lol. We certainly have the Dog fur to put that plan in to action, unfortunately!
I substituted wine for the beer last night and slept til 10 am this morning. Feeling much better now. Good plan.
I’m glad you had a good time! Don’t beat yourself up about going.
